“Meet the Twins”

Sofia and Jovita

Sofia and Jovita are sweet, spunky, empathetic, silly, and full of joy. They are incredibly social and always eager to strike up a conversation with anyone they meet. They love having their hair done and have a passion for dresses, shoes, and purses—but their absolute favorite accessory is a good pair of cowboy boots. Here’s a link to their current favorite boots —>https://amzn.to/3Z4VFQ1.

Sofia is eleven minutes older than Jovita, and they turned four in October 2025.

They love ice cream, cuddles, painting, playing outside with their neighbors, playground adventures, zoo visits, swimming, and spending time exploring the world around them together. This is one of our favorite water paint activities because they are not messy and tons to choose from, all they need is a little water and they love it —>https://amzn.to/49f9Bgh.

Their Birth Story

Their birth story is intense and deeply emotional. At 33 weeks, an ultrasound was unable to clearly show Sofia’s head circumference, making it difficult to determine whether she was growing appropriately. By 36 weeks, even the specialist could not confidently confirm her growth. Because the girls shared a placenta, there was concern that one twin may have been receiving more nutrients than the other.

As soon as I reached 37 weeks, I strongly advocated for an induction. I felt deeply in my heart that if my baby wasn’t growing well inside the womb, she needed the chance to grow and thrive outside of it. While my doctor didn’t initially understand the urgency I felt, I trusted my instincts. I personally contacted the hospital scheduler, who was incredibly understanding and helped schedule my induction.

On the 21st, I left work for a routine doctor’s appointment, but my blood pressure would not come down—even while on medication. Because I was already scheduled for induction the following day, they sent me directly to the hospital and admitted me early. At that point, my doctor listened closely to my concerns and followed my lead, officially moving forward with the induction.

I received an epidural, which thankfully was not painful this time—a relief after my previous experience. Due to the high-risk nature of my delivery, I was placed in a surgical room in case an emergency C-section became necessary. The room was filled with an incredible team—two nurses assigned to each baby, my doctor, additional staff, and my husband—all working together to ensure a safe delivery.

Sofia was born first. There was a pause afterward, and the nurses focused their attention on her. In those moments, fear washed over me, and all I could think was, “Please God, not this again.” After a few minutes that felt like an eternity, the nurses smiled, and we heard Sofia cry. She had been resuscitated, and that sound was pure relief. Jovita arrived eleven minutes later with no complications.

Both girls spent time in the NICU for observation and feeding support. Sofia came home after 13 days, and Jovita after 14 days. Due to COVID regulations, once I was discharged from the hospital, my husband and I were only allowed one visitor per day. I spent most days at the hospital with the girls, often from morning until visitation hours ended. My husband wasn’t able to see them until a week later, which made an already emotional time even harder.

We are forever grateful for the incredible hospital staff—before, during, and after delivery—and for the Arizona NICU program, which provided exceptional care during those two weeks.

Looking back, I am deeply thankful that I trusted my instincts and advocated for my babies. I truly believe that listening to that inner voice made all the difference. Twin pregnancies carry unique risks, and with my personal and family history, I knew I could not take any chances. This experience reaffirmed for me the power of a mother’s intuition and the importance of speaking up.

Looking back, I can clearly see God’s hand guiding us through every step of this journey. From the strength to speak up, to the care that surrounded us, to the cries that filled the room, His presence never left us. Bringing Sofia and Jovita safely into the world was not only a blessing, but a reminder that even in fear and uncertainty, God is faithful. I share our story in hopes that it encourages other moms—especially twin moms—to trust their instincts, lean on their faith, and know they are never walking this road alone.
